Luby u Chebu, Czech Republic. Sitting here you knew everything. Almost
everybody was employed at the local factory that produced string instruments.
Since the workers had started early in the morning, they would finish
early in the afternoon and meet the children getting out of school.
They would all go home and eat a hot meal. Then late in the afternoon
all the families would walk around town, families together. The May
sun would burn into my face as I sat there, and everything I knew about
the town or the world would burn out of my eyes, and the black wine
tasted of great works of art about sweeping pleasure and light life.
